Sprocket advice

Hey all i have been reading alot about sprocket changes people have done and was wondering if it would be right for me. Currently, the fastest my Z has ever gotten (downhill with tailwind) was 64. And I'm a pretty light dude at 125 pounds. It has never hit rev limiter at 4th gear because it just doesnt have the grunt to get there, and getting from 56-61 takes forever. So i was thinking about going down a tooth in the front to give it some more push. I realize this will decrease top speed, but with how it is now, I never even get all the way to redline anyways because of the lack of torque. In a perfect world, I was hoping this sprocket change would get me to about the same speeds I'm getting now or maybe slightly lower, just at a higher rpm but with the more fun in the low/mid range that comes with the torque. Will it completely kill my top speed? I'm not sure how drastic the sprocket changes are. I also read that it will screw with the speedometer, but I thought that the speedometer read from wheel rotation not sprocket? even if it does, would it make the speedo reading more accurate? or worse?

Unless you have/buy a BBK kit you cant raise the top speed unless maybe smaller 1-2 teeth rear sprocket maximum but the gain of a extra 1-3mphs if any is not worth it for most. A 15T counter is to much for most all stock engines and/or with pipe and intake and bike will actually be slower top speed.

Only gain for acceleration without any top speed loss would be the lighten primary mod. Or exhaust, Intake and a fuel programmer at around a $800.00 range .

gotcha im not too worried about top speed, i manage to hit 65, 70 on downhill cause im pretty lightweight but would like more acceleration for sure but at the same time dont want to lose the top speed i have now, would 14T/34T make more sense? also would that be a 102 link chain for that ratio?

34T you will lose 8-10mph top speed. And will need a longer chain 104 link

Using almost the same gear ratio as a 34T is to use 13/32 gearing and no need to replace the chain.

The most popular wheelie gearing is 13/32 and will lose 8-10 top speed but will still use the OEM 100 link chain

Then when your better at wheelies most remove the 32t rear and only lose 4-6mphs top speed and will still use the OEM length 100 link chain

Then when ready remove the 13T and get back to the stock gearing and top speed and will still use the OEM 100 link chain

gotchaaa i see what your saying, i commute around town and still practicing wheelies so dont want to lose my top speed too much, lets say i just go ahead and try 14T/32, what would the chain link be? 100 link?

also what chain would you recommend could you post a link
Stock OEM chain 100 link will work as long as your axle now is passed the back half center position of the adjustment range. (should be if OEM chain)

If still have the stock OEM chain best to replace it now before ir wears out your sprockets.

But these are more options for a quality chain

thanks alot! i think im set on what ima do, was planning on replacing the chain along with the sprockets, if im not moving up the 14T should i get a new one(front 14T) with the the new rear sprocket and chain or can i use the stock 14T sprocket thats already on there.
if you have less than 1000mi on it its still good. But if doing new chain and rear sprocket you might as well since there so cheep
