Hi Everyone!

I’m excited about the new Z125. I have been reading up and familiarizing myself with it as much as I can for now before it’s out. Not too long ago I had the 1st deposit on the Grom at my local Honda dealer, after waiting a while I decided to back burner it for a while and upgrade my wife’s Ninja 250 to a new Ninja 300 ABS which we love.

Well spring is here and we were considering 1 or 2 small bikes this year, we are Grom fans and love what people have done with them so far. So we went looking around and found a few good deals on new Groms for the same price or slightly above used ones (within 0-200 difference Out The Door priced) when we heard of the new Z125. Competition is good for the consumer, look at the 300cc market these days, it wasn’t long ago when the Ninja 250 was the only game in town. For us, we like the Z125 style a bit more but also several specific items… the headlight, gauge cluster with gear indicator, mirrors, exhaust, chin spoiler and pegs… so once these hit the dealerships we will go check out and see if we like them as much still.

I have been riding street for 26 years and dirt for 36. I used to work for Honda motorcycles back in the 90's before moving on to a career in IT, working for Honda was the most fun job I have had. I usually have 2-4 bikes at a time and usually buy a new one each year or so, I'm trying to slow down with that but hey... I don't drink or gamble so it is what it is. I have had more than 60 bikes now, everything from CBR 929, Kawasaki ZX10, YSR50's, Ninja 250/300's, ZX14's and lots of other sport bikes from 250 and 300cc Enduros and Supermotos to the Victory Cross Country, HD Street Glide, Sportsters, Shadows and other cruisers. I'm a motorcyclist and love them all… all brands and styles of bikes. Currently riding a Honda Fury, Ninja 300 and Harley Iron (photos of these uploaded to the Garage section).

Well we don't have a Z125 but since posts are better with photos here is an old pic of our YSR50, Ninja 250 and ZX14 together…

Thanks,
Slolane

Welcome. Looks like you never bought the R3. Did you get rid of the FZ-09 and Victory?

Z125 would fit in perfectly, in the size line-up, of your current stable...:wink2:

You got it, didn't go for the R3 and yes we sold the Vic and FZ09.

I believe you're right the Z125 would fit nicely. I was thinking one but maybe it's time to sell the Harley too and get two. Have to see it when the Z arrives... they need to hurry up!

That's very true, fits in perfectly when it comes to CC's since it offers a totally different experience, then of course there's the fact its also available in green

Actually I will be going for grey, have to branch out sometimes and get something different. It seems many people were focused on the green so figured would go with the less popular choice. I have had all sorts/sizes of bikes but not specifically a 125cc street legal one. I was 1st in line for a Grom at my local dealer back before they were released but pulled my deposit and bought a CRF250L instead. One of the salesman I have worked with for years ended up buying that same Grom, he was cool and let me ride his around a bit, it was a lot of fun so I believe the Z125 will be just as fun. We will see, I'm sure my dealer will let me test ride the Z125 prior to purchase, they don't usually allow that much but I have purchased so many bikes from them they let me... I had to test ride the FZ-09 before I bought it as I was concerned with the poor twitchy throttle reputation they have. :)

WOW I'm impressed with your bike collection!

And your wifey rides too! That's awesome!

That's true, try to branch out into a different color would be nice, although the Z125 would fit in your current line-up :)

It's good to have that relationship with the dealer, hopefully they'll allow you to test ride it!!

Keep us posted on the experience and the first test ride (if they allow) :D

Are you seeing it on Saturday as well?

Thanks!

Yeh, I will keep updating here, I don't expect to hear/see anything for a while. I heard (not from them) that they can place specific orders in the first week or so or April and then may start to see deliveries by end of May but who knows for sure. That seems fast to me so I doubt it will be that early but would be cool if it were.

Thanks, I think it will be a lot of fun. My oldest son is now looking for a deal on a new/leftover Grom and some friends of mine are also considering Grom's/Z125's as well but we'll see as most already have multiple bikes and all. It would be fun to have a group but I don't mind being the only one on a small bore. I'm sure there are local groups, I used to run some Meetup.com groups for motorcycles and scooters but once the riders grew to over 100 it was a lot to manage and I stepped down as the organizer. Mostly ride solo or with a small group of family/friends.

My wife loves the Ninja 300, such an upgrade from the 250's, we were pleasantly surprised.

It's nice to have a family of riders! That's pretty awesome to have a wife and now your son riding. Do you ever go on a family outing just riding around town??

Yeah I heard about the meetup.com, but WOW 100+ members??? I could imagine the difficulty of organizing an event for such a large crowd.

I'm glad your wife enjoyed the upgrade, one of my friend has a ninja 300 as well and loves it! :grin2:

It's fun, my dad, uncles and cousins all ride too and we do ride together.

Largest ride I ran was 40-some riders split into smaller groups, still it was too much work and not as much fun.

The 300 is a great bike, I like the R3 as well. I'm glad to see that segment grow and hope this 125cc class does the same.

That's so cool! I wish I had a family of riders too! haha

40+ people ? that's definitely tough to ride together but sounds like a lot of work :(

Maybe I'll consider the 300 one too after the 125cc :D

Did you own the R3?

No R3 for us. If we didn't have the Ninja 300 we would have considered but not to change from the Ninja to the Yamaha.

Well my wait is over... ended up buying 2 Grom's today. I will keep an eye on the forum here and stop in from time to time as we may also add a Z125 to the garage at some point.
