Depends on what you want to do. Z125 is a great beginner bike, but I would call it more of a scooter than a 'real' motorcycle. If you plan on just farting around town, it's awesome. If you want to go off into the country side and/or hop on a freeway, then not so much. I find if the road speeds are 45 MPH (~72 KPH) or less, the Z is perfect.

Beginner wise, it's hard to beat. Low seat height so you can easily touch the ground. Forgiving clutch. Not fast enough to get you into any 'real' trouble if you panic (although I did break my arm when I totaled my first one). And it's stupid enough that you can leave your ego at the door.

^Great summary^

I will add that because of the licensing system in the UK you have a massively greater selection of cool small bikes at your disposal.

When it comes to beginner bikes a $900 junker* is nearly always a better option than a $3200 brand spankin' new bike.

*Used, abused, may need a carb rebuild, but still rides well.
