Yeah, I usually start it one the stand and let it warm up. Can't imagine why being on the sidestand would create a "slow start" condition, if anything I would think "no start", but I'll give it a try after work today.

I wonder if the timing changes with the new ECU are responsible.

Mine was very hard to start when it was super cold. I live in Iowa and I ride my Z to work every day as long as the roads are not covered in snow. I put a new battery on mine (2018 with 5000 miles and factory battery) and now it starts easily. even in the coldest weather it turns over quite a few times but it starts. Everything I've read says the NGK iridium spark plug makes it start much faster. Especially after doing intake and exhaust mod. Just be careful not to strip the threads when changing spark plug like I did.

did you go factory 50 CA size and model battery? seems it is all will fit.
