Every now and then I would try to start my motor and it would crank over but not fire. I would let it sit for 10 seconds and try again. It eventually starts, but wondering if anyone else has this issue.

It just recently started for me, and seems to only happen with the motor is cold.

I have an intake and exhaust on my bike.

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue, and if there is a fix for it. I might send my bike into the dealership to see if they know what is going on with it.

Mine has done that since the day I put my exhaust on. I do not have a fuel controller yet so I'm sure it's from running so lean. I have one on order. If you don't have one and have intake/exhaust I highly suggest getting one asap. Running lean can really hurt engines. Good luck.

As others have said, it sounds like this problem is due to the parts you added causing the engine to run lean, so the dealer won't be able to help you much. Unless they installed the parts, they aren't responsible for how it runs after it's modified. Why haven't you installed a fuel controller yet, when it's pretty obvious you need one?

Mine would do this when stock. Without the added parts. I would cycle the key and let the fuel pump cycle a few times to prime fuel. It would start everytime by doing this. Now I just dont care. LOL. It doesnt hurt it the least bit by over cranking. When it had no miles on it I cared but not anymore.

do you all turn on the key and press start
thats all

or do you also twist the throttle when starting

I give a slight twist, as I've done on every bike I have ever owned

and always starts right up

maybe the larger 4 cylinder bikes start with no twist, as you have many cylinders that can kick it over
but I've been riding single cylinder small bikes for years and have to do this

fuel injected or carb

I always twist the throttle when starting. Just a habit from the pitbikes.

Does your starter make a funny noise??? my guess is your starter is one of the ones with a bad bearing like mine and quite a few other people on here. Causes hard starting and starter noise. Had it replaced and it is better than new

Just crack the throttle about 20% when pushing the start button, not 100%. Should speed up the process, but yes many bikes from factory run lean for emissions reasons and modifications exacerbate the problem until you correct it with a fuel controller.

Read the thread titled starter noise. The dealer will fix that for free, unless you wanna wait and buy a $200 starter when your warranty is up :-O
It dont sound like a starter squeal. To me it sounds line the decompression valve releases after trying to start. Kinda sounds like blow off valve.

Also my dealer is over an hour away don't really have time to take it in.

Took it to the dealership to get it warranted...

This is the first time that I really dealt with a new bike so Im kind of new to this, but it's a serious pain in the *** to try to get the dealerships to cooperate with me. It's so different from working with a car dealership. I'm used to dropping the car off if the vehicle is still under warranty and picking up the car fixed no hassles.

The bike... wow. They told me that there is a diagnostic fee, and they will report the issues they find to kawasaki, if Kawasaki agrees to the repairs, they will repair for free. If Kawasaki says no, then I have to pay for the diagnostic fee, and whatever labor time it took to take the bike apart. I have the bike at the dealership right now, but I'm contemplating just taking the bike back and tracing the repairs myself.

Mine has been doing this as well. I have about 1500 miles or so on it and had no issues after bazzaz, chimera and yosh. However then all of a sudden started having this issue. Followed by CEL. After a 20 or so miles the light went away. Only to have the same starting issue followed by CEL? Anyone have this happen?
